The Kizh Nation
About Us
The Kizh People are the lineal descendants of the Indigenous People of the Los Angeles basin. Our precontact territory included what is not parts of Los Angeles (including the southern Chanel Islands), Orange, Riverside and San Bernardino Counties. This has been well established from the oral stories collected by early ethnographers, linguists scholars and archaeological researchers. Despite recent attempts to change these boundaries, the data does not lie. Unfortunately, when Southern California became part of the United States and the reservations system was established, only the tribes along the perimeter of the Basin were granted reservations lands and were recognized but the US Federal Government. Regardless, the Kizh Nation has continued its traditions, arts, stories, and cultures while remaining an active part of the Urbanized Los Angeles landscape.
